HAPPY SYLVESTER

Or...as some people call it...Happy New Year!!
We talk about the weather, and what weather we had. We have relatives here but they don't have luggage. Is Tzipi Livni a ray of hope? Or not? Carol and Charley argue to bring in the New Year.

And from all of us at Israelisms, we want to wish all of you a happy and healthy New Year!

The final song is from Ayfo Ha Yeled.

AND PLEASE DIGG US!!

A Christmas Miracle

Charley and Carol agree! Olmert better do something. Charley is very ill and Carol doesn't care. Cease fires that are never cease fires. Bibi has a blog. Stupid ministers in Israel's government.

Make sure you go to YNetNews.com for all your Israel news.

Final song is by AYA KOREM and the name of the song is "Yonatan Shapira"

HAPPY HANUKKAH (Hanuka; Chanukah; Holidays)

Our Special Hanukah Show. We talk about some fun, absurd, could only happen in Israel stuff. Like the Keystone Kops, who some people call the Israel Police. Airlines just aren't kosher enough. Seats on the bus. Olmert bumbles again. Haniya can't show me da money. Sam's story from Chicago and Arielle's officer test.

If you REALLY want to laugh, view Yisrael Campbell's video clip from his one man show "It's Not In Heaven"

And that cool song in the beginning was from DOC MO SHE

And the final song is a little contribution from BARE NAKED LADIES!

Almost forgot...okay so I did forget and my apologies....but don't YOU forget to go to YNetNews.com for all your news from Israel!!

A Report Even A Terrorist Could Love

The Baker-Hamilton Report comes out. Hamas and Syria love it! Should that tell us something?

Charley talks with Josh Reinstein of The Knesset Christian Allies Caucus and finds out what it takes to get people over to our side.

Find out the inexplicable lurid escapades of a prominent Knesset member Charley uncovers while at the Crowne Plaza Hotel coffee shop.

Well, maybe not.

And more talk of the doings and non-doings of our government.

Final song is from Ayfo HaYeled called Meshehu Shomaya Otee (Someone Hears Me).

And don't forget to go to YNetNews.com for Israel news.

Give Cease A Chance

Our weather guy Steven gives a great report; the rapist and the Keystone Kops; Ray Hanania of YNetNews.com is a South Sider; Olmert talks good; King Abdullah puts a limit on immigration; the kind-of-a cease fire; the well deserved general strike; and Sam gets a job. Oh yeah...and Charley has the best stand-up show of his career but we'll never know for sure.

The final song is from  Ivri Lider called Yoter Tov Klume (Better Than Nothing). A little comment on the Cease Fire?

Our thanks to YNetNews.com and be sure to go there for all your Israel news.

Happy Thanksgiving

Well...at least for a while. Off to the States. The Weather Bard stays with us, though. And we have a guest commentator, Yaakov Lappin of YnetNews.com

We talk about our Defense Minister; Charley has an idea for some political action at the United Nations; Thanksgiving Turkey; and Thanksgiving debacle; Haredi Fashion Convention and ladies....please walk on the other side of the street.

Everyone say good-bye to Samantha for a while. She's off to the States.

Please check out YnetNews.com for your Israel news needs.

Our final song is by Caroline. A choice from Samantha. They're a new Israeli group.

Or maybe a little disagreement...about...stuff.

The Weather Bard bids adieu (sniff, sniff). Our thanks to Steven Cohen for a job incredibly done.

Comments on the comments, Israel's Post Office and indiscriminate charging, Arielle update, Sam's leaving on a jet plane.

Paula Abdul comes out of the closet.

I Love A Parade

The Gay Pride Parade turns into a Gay Pride Event. Violence works. Haredim rioting for no good reason. Israel government folds again. Olmert does nothing so he can keep his job. Lieberman in charge of dismantling settlements, and other absurd situations.

The final song is by Eric Berman.

Turnin' Down The Flame

And we're not talking about the weather. Although, we do talk about the weather. Israel weather, that is. Charley has a miserable time getting his car tested. The haredim (ultra-orthodox) are being ridiculous...again. The Israeli government is at a standstill, but Carol has a solution!

No More Jet Lag

And we're back to arguing. It feels good. There's a racist in the Knesset, but our elected officials don't care. Olmert doesn't care. Peretz doesn't care. Assassin's conjugal visit. Israel politics at its finest. Peres wants to be president, but you gotta promise. And Arielle survives a breakup.

Final song is an oldie by Kaveret.

Home again! Good to be back. We talk about the trip back home to Israel. Getting back into the Israel political swing of things we talk about our disgraceful president (as opposed to the others some may have), possible political party mergers, gorgeous weather, and all kinds of stuff.

Still very jet-lagged.

Special thanks again to Richard Lewis for the intro.

And we had a great time with Matt and Amy (Redboy Podcast) and Lisa and Joe (Cheap Date) at Navy Pier in Chicago!

First of all, apologies for not getting this to you sooner. To say things have been crazy...well you can imagine. But this has remained a priority. We promise. We've been to California, and now we're in Chicago. We still have time to talk about Israel and a weird experience for Charley on Yom Kippur. Controversy follows Israelisms. I swear we don't ask for it!

We're still going to try to shoot for a regular show on Friday. Excuse the production quality. It's unedited, uncompressed, and uploaded at Starbucks because nobody in our family has wireless access! Could be worse. I mean look at it this way....we're drinking Starbucks!!!

Wrapped in a thinly disguised excuse, Wikipedia deletes Israelisms Podcast from its listings, to the dismay of the show's listeners worldwide. One person's anti-Israel agenda seems enough for the Wikipedia editors to take action.

Jerusalem, ISRAEL(PRWEB)August24,2006--
Wikipedia has shown a surprising political anti-Israel opinion and booted Israelisms Podcast (http://www.israelisms.com) from its listings.

Even after overwhelming support for the retention of the most popular English language podcast broadcast from Israel, the editors today deleted the show from its offerings.

Some may have seen it as an advertisement; or Wikipedia shouldn't be political; or it doesn't belong in Wikipedia. But when the entry for "Daily Source Code", which is only an advertisement for DSC and Podshow remains untouched, it makes one wonder. When "Dawn and Drew" are there, it's obvious Wikipedia doesn't concern itself with "family-friendly" issues. When "Nobody Likes Onions" has, as part of their write-up "NLO is very politically incorrect", it's evident the Israelisms situation has nothing to do with all politics. And when "Madge Weinstein" from "Yeast Radio" claims "she" is "also the former lover of Ethel Merman", it's clear Wikipedia has no concern for taste.

So, what was it? It's pretty clear that the only entry for a podcast dealing with everyday life and talking about politics from within Israel bothered some people with an anti-Israel agenda, and either Wikipedia folded...

or they agree with that agenda.

Correspondence from our listener Esther (who now has her own blog, up north:
Shalom Carol and Charley

Again your correspondent from the noisy northern border who was woken earlier by a loud boom (so what's new).
It is Friday, the end of another week and I am looking forward to your podcast.

Life has slipped into a routine of internet, phones and TV. My husband is back to work though half his shift aren't there - either at home looking after children or 'down south'.

Earlier in the week our congregation coordinator did a fine job organizing, among other things, buses to relocate any members of the community who wish to go somewhere more peaceful. Those who can't go to family or friends are with host families. The bus on Tuesday had a luckily escape as a kutuysha landed 100m away from where people were waiting to be picked up. Fortunately no one was hurt.
I understand Tzur Hadassah has taken a serious part in this effort both organizing and hosting.Did you know about that?
I am in charge of the 'Anglos', posting messages to an electronic notice board and phoning those who don't have email. Most of them are veteran Naharians and have no intention of leaving but were glad to have chat.
The Reform Movement also donated some activity kits to Shlomi and Naharia so the children will have something to do in the shelters on Shabbat.

Unfortunately it is not all good news. The lady killed in the first attack on Naharia was an occasional visitor to our congregation and her nephew is an active youth member. She was an Argentinean and her death has sent shock waves through the Naharia's Spanish speaking community.
And yesterday I discovered the one of our members is now living in a shelter because her building has been destroyed. Today I hope to organize some transport to get her to Jerusalem and a host family. I would like to check how she is and we really need to do some shopping so I think a detour is in order.

We have also had enough of being stuck inside and are planning a Shabbat trip to Tel Aviv - sea, sand ,sunlight.

I have stopped watching the international news and reports about 'Israeli Aggression's leaving me shout at the TV.
However this report left me breathless
Whether it's anti-Semitism or anti-Israeli,  it is anti-me. ( And will someone tell me why it is so ok to be anti-Israel. What have we done that is so horrible the world feels it can hate us with impunity?) According to human rights organizations other countries can fight a war with civilians causalities and it is a shame, when Israel does so it is a war crime. Is my life, any Israeli life, so worthless to them that Israel is not allow to defend itself?

Final music is by Machina!

And The Rocket's Red Glare....

Really not too much to talk about today. Sorry. But I suppose we dug up a couple subjects. Just to keep things interesting, Samantha joins us in the studio. We talk about the World Cup and Anthony Parker leaving. Oh yeah, and I guess we might have mentioned the war that we're in, also. The idiots at the United Nations and the equally mentally challenged folks in the European Union get some time. And we would be remiss if we didn't at least throw a passing comment towards our favorite terrorists, Hizbullah and Hamas.

Repeat after me, class......"Disproportionate Response"

We received an email from our listener Esther, who lives up North near the Lebanese border. She agreed to let us share it with you, and we'd like to thank her for that. Here it is:

Of course our present situation isn't quite so wonderful.
We are used to the occasional boom so at first it was no big deal. Then we started to see the news and realized it was serious. At 11am the Matnas phoned to ask us to take the children home from summer camp. We kept to our plan of visiting my parents for lunch but they live only about 1 km from the border. You can see the the border, that green ridge that was behind Alon Ben-David on channel 10's news last night, from my parent's sitting-room. We spent most of the afternoon in their security room in the company of several terrified pet dogs, eyes glued to the TV news with the constant boom and rattle of gun and artillery fire in our ears. Whenever there was a particularly loud explosion my daughter would leap into my arms. When my husband came to pick us up after work we could see the brown smoke of battle billowing up from behind the ridge and there was strong smell of gunfire in the air.

Our house is about 2 km from the border on the other side of Shlomi and it was a lot quieter than at my parents as we could only hear the loudest booms and of course all the air traffic.Even so our children slept in the safety room.

Then this morning I was woken by the boom of the katuyshas as they passed over us on the way to Naharia. After checking the internet and TV news there were phone calls: some to friends in Naharia and many from friends elsewhere in Israel offering us help and a place to escape. Even our friends at the Reform 'HQ' in Jerusalem phoned to show their support and to ask if they could help in anyway. Our friends abroad also sent emails to check we are ok.
One pleasant surprise at 9am: my husband arrived back home. He works in Tefen and the factory had closed so an impromptu holiday.

Later
Sorry just finished the above when there was a loud bang and the electricity cut-off. At this we decided to take a trip the Kirion (The Kanion of the North) . We also needed to stock up on food as feeding 4 people at least 3 times a day uses up a lot of supplies and we need plenty of snacks to munch our way through the boredom of being stuck in the house.
Naturally as we wandered round we met most of my husband's family and about a dozen of his work colleagues so it took a lot longer than expected and that explains why I'm finishing this in the middle of the night.
Since we've been home there seem to be less katuyshas but a lot of air traffic and on our travels we saw several tanks being transported into position. The fact that one missile managed to reach Haifa was a bit of a shock.

Maybe you want take a trip north with the IRiver? Now that would be a special podcast, plenty of background sound effects!

Anyway must go sleep and all that....

take care
Esther

HAPPY PASSOVER and EASTER

A little stand-up to start things off. Then we move to another great and successful Passover seder. Yes, the gefilte fish was great. We even talk about Cadbury Easter Eggs, the weather, the best and most generous listeners in the world, politics out of context, American Idol (of course), and some voice mails. Happy Birthday, Hannah Bananah.

Vote for Podcast Pickle for the Webby Award!

And as requested, I put a link for a new iPod donations link on the right side of this page. You're the best.

Happy Pesach!

We talk about gefilte fish and the convergence plan. Now where else can you get both those in one show? The coalition, the weather, and my poor ruined iPod.

Oh...and if you didn't believe me about the skydiving.....

SEEK IRONY

Even if you're not a fan of hard rock, you're going to love this podcast. We had the pleasure to spend some time with the Israeli rock band SEEK IRONY and here it is for you along with a few of their songs.
On a personal note, and I hope this doesn't ruin their hard rock image, but you won't meet a nicer group of guys. We had such a good time. They have a great sense of humor, they love what they're doing, and they love being from Israel. Their music is in English, but they are definitely Israeli. And that's a compliment.
